What Makes PACU Different

Built for Pharmacists, Not Adapted from Physician Content

Most literature services repurpose physician-focused content. PACU is the only service designed from scratch for pharmacy professionals.

PACU Literature Review

Pharmacy-Specific Signals

REMS updates, limited distribution alerts, payer policy changes, and formulary impacts — the context that matters to you.

Written by Pharmacists, for Pharmacists

Every summary is authored by practicing pharmacists who understand your workflow, not repurposed from physician content.

Audio Summaries for On-the-Go

5-minute audio narrations you can listen to during your commute, at the gym, or between shifts.

CE Credits Built In

Earn ACPE-accredited continuing education credits as part of the review process — no extra steps.

Generic Medical Services

Physician-Focused Content

Studies selected for physician practice priorities, then loosely adapted. Pharmacy-specific implications are an afterthought.

No Pharmacy-Specific Context

Missing REMS updates, limited distribution changes, payer policy shifts, and formulary impact analysis.

Text Only

Long-form articles with no audio option. Difficult to consume during a busy clinical day.

CE Credits Sold Separately

Literature review and continuing education live in separate silos, requiring additional subscriptions and steps.

Emergency Medicine Practice-Changing

Balanced Crystalloids vs. Normal Saline in Critically Ill Adults: Updated Evidence and Pharmacy Implications

New England Journal of Medicine · January 2026

Key Findings

  • Balanced crystalloids associated with a 1.2% absolute reduction in 30-day mortality vs. normal saline (P = 0.04)
  • Subgroup analysis shows greatest benefit in sepsis and surgical ICU populations
  • Hyperchloremic metabolic acidosis occurred in 8.4% of NS group vs. 3.1% in balanced crystalloid group

Pharmacy Implications

  • Review institutional IV fluid formulary and consider defaulting to balanced crystalloids for ICU resuscitation
  • Work with P&T committee to update fluid resuscitation order sets and clinical pathways
  • Cost analysis: LR ~$0.20/L more than NS — offset by reduced AKI and shorter ICU stays
