  • Fecal microbiota transplantation (FMT):
    • Stool instillation from a healthy donor
    • Delivered to the intestinal tract of recurrent CDI patient
  • FMT Delivery:
    • Can be delivered a number of different ways
      • Capsule
      • Endoscopy
      • GastricĀ  tube
    • High success rate with colon instillation
    • Decision regarding route of transplant is left to discretion of patient and provider

  • FMT Candidates:
    • Multiple recurrences of CDI
    • Failed resolution despite appropriate antibiotics
      • No pre-specified number of attempts at treatment
      • Experts recommend at least 2 recurrences before considering FMT

Long term infectious and noninfectious consequences of FMT are still unknown
