Acute Management of Pulmonary Embolism

This lesson provides an overview of the diagnosis, risk stratification, and pharmacological management of acute pulmonary embolism. There is a focus on evidence-based anticoagulation options and dosing considerations.

PE Lesson Objectives:

  1. Identify risk factors for PE and utilize clinical prediction rules and diagnostic tests to diagnose PE and determine risk stratification.
  2. Select appropriate pharmacological management for acute PE including parenteral agents, oral anticoagulants, duration of therapy, and transitions between agents.
  3. Recognize special populations and complications associated with PE treatment and determine appropriate modifications to therapy.
