Trauma resuscitation requires prompt recognition of hypovolemic shock and targeted interventions to restore circulating volume and oxygen carrying capacity. The diagnostic approach focuses on rapid identification of hemorrhage and coagulopathy. Fluid resuscitation options include crystalloids for initial volume expansion along with blood products and adjunctive agents to improve oxygen delivery and correct coagulation deficits. Damage control resuscitation promotes the early use of balanced ratios to prevent exacerbation of trauma-induced coagulopathy. Antifibrinolytic agents like tranexamic acid have become a key part of managing bleeding after major trauma. Overall, an evidence-based, protocolized approach to trauma resuscitation improves outcomes in this critically ill patient population.
